Lau Øfjord Blaxekjær is an engaged scholar leading NIAS’ programme on Asia-Arctic relations. Lau holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Copenhagen focusing on climate governance and green growth. He also works with environmental transformation of society in the Faroe Islands and the West Nordic region.

Presentation: 

Lau holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Copenhagen focusing on climate governance and green growth. He also works with environmental transformation of society in the Faroe Islands and the West Nordic region. He represented the Faroe Islands at COP21 in Paris, and has also advised the Nordic Council of Ministers in UN climate negotiations. Lau has been visiting professor at the Sino-Danish Centre for Education and Research in Beijing, China, and visiting PhD fellow at McGill University.

Lau is Leader of University of the Arctic’s Thematic Network on Arctic Coastal Communities for Sustainability. He developed and leads the Green Growth Dialogue (a West Nordic – Canadian Science-Policy-Society network – www.greengrowthdialogue.com ).
Lau is a member of several international networks and groups.

•         Research Fellow of Earth System Governance Project www.earthsystemgovernance.org
•         Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN).
•         International Studies Association (ISA), Environmental Studies Section and International Political Sociology Section.

Current projects include:
•         Strengthening Sino-Nordic Cooperation (partly funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers).
•         Science Diplomacy in the Arctic.
•         Sustainability through student-driven innovation and entrepreneurship in the Arctic.
•         Sustainable fisheries management (Faroe Islands as case in global research project).
•         Nordic Sustainability Futures (book project).
•         Coalitions and conflict in UNFCCC negotiations (with other research fellows in the Earth System Governance network)
•         The Fukushima Triple Disaster, Science-Policy, and Energy Governance.
